Nippon Shinbun

[Nippon Shimbun], (São Paulo, Brazil)

Nippon Shinbun Masthead

A group primarily consisting of Okinawans acquired the Nanbei Shinpō and founded the Nippon Shinbun in 1932. The president was Sukenari Onaga and the chief editor, Shūho Nakanishi. Onaga, having work experience at the Japan Times in Japan and the Brajiru Jihō, promoted educating Nisei as good Brazilians and prioritized Brazil over Japan. Keeping an independent voice, often contrasting the view of Japanese Embassy in Brazil, it was a shoe-string operation. After foreign-language newspapers were banned in Brazil in 1941, the publisher ceased publishing the Nippon Shinbun.
