The Davao Times, (Davao, the Philippines)
The Davao Times was published in English and Visayan (Bisayan), and Tagalog in Davao, the Philippines. The twice-weekly issues were put out for local residents after the Japanese army’s occupation. The newspaper states the publisher was the Philippine Publication with the editor, Celestino Chaves, a former governor of the Davao province and Japanese sympathizer. The Japanese ambassador Murata Shūnzō’s report from the Philippines shows, however, it was published by the Davao branch of the Manira Shinbunsha. The publication is likely to have started in early 1944, estimated from the few surviving issues. The newspaper consisted of the Japanese war government’s propaganda news dispatched by a national news agency Dōmei, local news, disciplinary editorials, conversation lessons of Japanese, English, Tagalog and Visayan among others. The Japanese army delegated Ōsaka Mainichi Shinbunsha (merged with Tōkyō Nichi Nichi Shinbunsha in 1943) to be in charge of the Japanese newspaper operation in the Philippines, while still keeping it under military control.
『ダヴァオ・タイムス』はフィリピンのダヴァオ市で、英語、ヴィサヤ語、タガログ語で発行された。日本軍占領後、地元の住民を対象に週二回発行された。新聞には元ダヴァオ州知事で、親日派のセレスティノ・チャヴェスを編集長とするフィリピン・パブリケーション発行と記載されている。しかし、在フィリピン日本領事の報告書には同紙は『マニラ新聞』のダヴァオ支店が発行したと記録されている。存続する号数は限られており、恐らく1944年初頭に発刊されたと推測される。国営、同盟通信社が発信する日本軍事政権のプロパガンダニュース、規律を促す論評、日本語、英語、タガログ語、ヴィサヤ語の会話レッスンなどが掲載された。日本軍はフィリピンでの新聞報道を軍管轄下に置き、大阪毎日新聞社（1943年に東京日日新聞社と合併）の派遣社員にフィリピンでの新聞経営を行わせた。
