Dairen Nichinichi Shinbun

(Dalian, China)

Dairen Nichinichi Shinbun Masthead

After the Kwantung Army tightened its grip over local media by establishing Manshū Kōhō Kyōkai in 1936, the Manshū Nichinichi Shinbunsha, publisher of the South Manchuria Railway Co.’s organ paper Manshū Nichinichi Shinbun, moved its headquarters to Hōten (Mukden, present-day Shenyang) in 1938. The Manshū Nichinichi Shinbun continued to publish its Dairen (Dalian) edition after the move. It was not until 1940 when the title was renamed to the Dairen Nichinichi Shinbun. Despite multiple consolidations of the newspaper industry under the Japanese military rule in Manchuria, the Dairen Nichinichi Shinbun was permitted to publish under its title until September 1945 when the Soviet army in Dalian ordered it to suspend the publication.
