[The Chosen Shimpo], (Incheon, Korea)

Chōsen Shinpō Masthead

The Chōsen Shinpō traces its history to the publication of the Jinsen Keijō Kakushū Shōhō in 1890. It was renamed to the Chōsen Shinpō via another title, the Chōsen Shunpō in 1892. It was published by Chōsen Shinpōsha in Incheon with a strong commercial orientation. The publication was initially only three times a month but increased to every other day after the publisher changed to Yoshie Aoyama in 1895. By 1902, the newspaper became daily. The newspaper merged with the Chōsen Times under Kazuo Hagitani's leadership and established the largest Japanese-language newspaper published in Incheon, the Chōsen Shinbun in 1908. This Chōsen Shinpō was a different title from another Chōsen Shinpō published by Zai Fuzankō Shōhō Kaigisho (Chamber of Commerce at the Pusan Port) in Pusan.
